"More than 1000 people with mental disorders are taken care of by the professionals of Fundacion Manantial in more than 45 resources of various kinds. They can't always enjoy their Leisure time, cultural activities, sports and any other communitarian resources in general, regardless of the professional support received.

There are many occasions in which participation in activities and subsequent enjoyment of people suffering from mental disorders does not depend on the actions of the professionals, personal skills possessed, or the number of resources offered. Instead it depends on the personal relationships established with volunteers, a source of contacts and motivation, which many times explain the satisfaction experienced when performing a given activity.

In this sense, the Volunteers program was created with the purpose of promoting a closer relationship of this group and the community founded on the basis of human contact, solidarity and mutual enrichment avoiding the lack of understanding, intolerance, the stigma and society.

Going to the movies or a soccer match, playing tennis, visiting an exposition or a monument in the city, going with someone to the dentist when relatives are not able to, and learning to play the Astoria's bagpipe are activities which in themselves favor the normalization and enjoyment of life of people, mostly for those who possess less personal, financial and socializing opportunities.
