OCCUPATIONAL REHABILITATION

1. MAIN CHARACTERISTICS.

The Occupational Rehabilitation Center (ORC hereon) is a mechanism whose main objective is to train people having any kind of severe chronic or mental illness in the skills needed to search for a job, be hired and keep the job be it protected or ordinary.

It is a Center in which

- User formation possibilities are evaluated and assessed to better search for an adequate resource to address them (civic centers, INEM courses, academies, etc.)

- We support job insertion through the contacts with companies and official organisms (INEM, Municipality Job Fairs, etc.) to facilitate jobs that the users can perform depending on their formation, interests and preparation.

- Where, as a result of having a meaningful job and objectives (the workshops), we work on and strengthen skills to improve work performance.

- We also work to start and/or improve the formative career of all the users according to their interests and characteristics through the search of courses in neighborhood resources, follow up on the development of formation courses, provide professional formation support, etc.)

2. PROFILE OF THE TARGET SERVICED POPULATION.

General profile of potential OCR users, therefore of the OCR at Torrejón de Ardoz, is the following:

- To suffer from a severe and chronic mental disorder

- To be currently taken care of by the reference Mental Health Service

- To be between 18 and 45 years of age for both sexes

- Not be in an active and not-controlled psychopathologic condition

- To not have any legal impediments which make occupational insertion impossible

- To possess an adequate level of personal and social autonomy

- To display a minimum level of motivation regarding occupational integration

3. PROGRAMS AND INTERVENTION AREAS AND PRE-OCCUPATIONAL WORKSHOPS.

To attain the goal of endowing the users with the necessary knowledge, dexterity and skills to access and handle a job, we work on aspects such as vocational orientation, basic work-habits, training, social skills, job-search ability, etc.

Many of these activities will be carried out in various pre-occupational workshops of a multipurpose character. These workshops are like a first step in the evaluation and intervention in which the user acquires the skills necessary to work as independently as possible outside of the center.
