INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION SERVICE

Since its origins, FUNDACION MANANTIAL saw the necessity for information that the relatives of people with Severe Mental Disorders (SMD) had regarding their specific legal, social and work situation.

With the purpose of satisfying this necessity, the creation of a service that could provide a proper solution was fostered and, by resolution 176/97 of the General Technical Secretariat of the COUNCIL FOR HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES, dated February 11, 1997, the administrative authorization was issued for the establishment of FUNDACION MANANTIAL'S INFORMATION AND ORIENTATION SERVICE, authorization which was recorded in the 2nd section, 2nd subsection of the Registry for Entities, Centers and Services with registration no. S0986.

The number of existing consultations has grown at a constant rate in recent years. This is how, in the 12 months of the year 2008, ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY-SEVEN people have been served by FUNDACION MANANTIAL's Information and Orientation Service.

From this total, thirty-one were professionals of social or residential health care centers and services, 10 were people with mental disorders and 106 were relatives of people with mental disorders.

TYPOLOGY OF QUERIES

The typology of the queries serviced during these months is closely related to the person who makes them. Therefore, while people with relatives with SMD request all sorts of legal and social information, the professionals involved, directly or indirectly, in the care-taking process, request mostly legal information, specially issues related to the coordination with the Judges and members of the Attorney General's Office, legal citations, both for users as well as for the professionals themselves, and in many cases regarding the criteria for proceedings related to health or social matters, with definite legal implications (institutionalization, involuntary treatments, protection measures, restraining orders...).
